The China Charitable Foundation's Shenzhen Bao'an Charity Sale Shop Officially Opens.
· 中国慈善基金会
The China Charitable Foundation’s Shenzhen Bao'an Charity Thrift Store has officially commenced operations. The thrift store is located in the core commercial district of Bao'an District, Shenzhen. The storefront features a white lightbox background with the dignified red Chinese characters "中国慈善基金会" and the clear, standardized English wording "China Charitable Foundation" below. A circular foundation emblem (map of China with the Five-star Red Flag motif) gleams on the left, and the marking "No.: XPY00001" appears on the right, signifying that this is the Foundation’s first standardized charity thrift outlet established in the Shenzhen area.
Site selection in Bao'an: a testing ground for the integration of public welfare and commerce
As an important node in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Shenzhen Bao'an features a strong commercial atmosphere, dense pedestrian flows, and vibrant consumer activity. By establishing a charity thrift store here, the Foundation aims to explore a sustainable philanthropic model of financing charity through commerce and promoting commerce through philanthropy — raising charitable funds through the sale of goods, directing all net proceeds to charitable projects, and enabling citizens to participate in philanthropy through everyday consumption and to spread compassion.
The serial number "XPY00001" is not only the identifier for the inaugural outlet but also symbolizes a new starting point for the Foundation’s advancement along the path of public-welfare commercialization. This outlet will serve as a model for the gradual establishment of a chain of charity thrift stores across the Greater Bay Area and other cities nationwide.
Interior arrangement: tasteful Chinese style and a wide variety of charity items
The thrift store adopts a transparent glass façade design that provides ample natural light and an open view. The overall decoration is dominated by Chinese-style aesthetics; calligraphic works such as "厚德载道" (Great virtue bears the way) are hung on the walls to convey the profound heritage of Chinese traditional culture and the spirit of charity.
The interior is furnished with multiple sets of wooden display shelves and display cabinets exhibiting various charity-sale items, covering categories including cultural and creative products, handicrafts, teas and tea sets, household goods, and specialty items donated by charitable enterprises. Each item carries an expression of goodwill; when citizens make purchases, they are simultaneously contributing to charitable causes. The tea station area is equipped with Chinese-style tables and chairs with yellow cushions, creating a warm and elegant shopping experience where customers can enjoy tea, rest, and learn more about the Foundation’s public-welfare projects.
The office area is functionally zoned and equipped with storage lockers, filing cabinets, and office equipment to meet the daily operational management needs of the outlet. Plaques from partner organizations such as "Hong Kong Yiyi" are hung on the walls, attesting to the Foundation’s close collaboration with charitable institutions in Hong Kong and Macau. Green plants are placed throughout the interior, adding vitality and warmth to the shopping environment. A staff member in a gray suit is on duty in the store to provide customers with guidance and consultation at any time.
Operating model: all proceeds from the charity sale fully support philanthropy
The Bao'an charity thrift store operates under the model of "Foundation guidance, professionalized operation, and whole-of-society participation." Sources of goods for sale in the store include brand-new items donated by philanthropic enterprises and individuals, cultural and creative products derived from the Foundation’s public-welfare projects, and specialty handcrafted items provided by collaborating artisans.
Use of funds: All items are clearly priced. After deducting necessary operating costs, all sales proceeds are fully injected into the Foundation’s charitable fund and will be used for public-welfare projects such as educational and medical assistance, eldercare and disability support, rural revitalization, emergency relief, and other initiatives.
The store will also regularly host themed charity sale days, public-welfare salons, volunteer experience activities, and other events to invite citizens to gain close-up insight into the progress of charitable projects and to enhance transparency and public engagement in philanthropy.
The charity thrift store is not only a retail venue but also a public-welfare platform that connects compassion with need. We hope every customer who enters the store will, while selecting items they cherish, become a participant in and a proponent of charitable work.
Social value: shopping as philanthropy — small acts gather into great love
The establishment of the charity thrift store provides ordinary citizens with a convenient and sustainable channel to participate in public welfare. Unlike traditional donations, the charity-sale model allows citizens to fulfill philanthropic acts naturally while meeting their consumer needs, lowering the threshold for participation and enhancing the philanthropic experience. Behind each charity item is a gesture of compassion; repeated everyday purchases coalesce into a powerful force that advances society toward benevolence.
Looking ahead: building a replicable charitable chain brand
With the Shenzhen Bao'an charity thrift store now in operation, the China Charitable Foundation has taken a solid step forward along the path of integrating public welfare and commerce. Going forward, the Foundation will continue to optimize the store’s operating model, enrich merchandise categories, and enhance the customer experience, striving to make the Bao'an outlet a replicable and promotable model for a charitable retail chain.
On this basis, the Foundation plans to gradually open more charity thrift outlets across Shenzhen’s districts and key cities in the Greater Bay Area to form scale effects, embed the concept of "consumption as philanthropy" into the public consciousness, aggregate small acts of kindness into great love, and contribute more to advancing social fairness and justice and spreading human warmth.
